This past weekend, we decided to take a little weekend trip to Santa Barbara. Steve and I thought it would be a nice escape, and we were right. Lukasz was his usual angel baby self! He loved looking around at everything and everyone. He let us stroll around Los Olivos and taste some new wines, and we enjoyed a yummy dinner at The Hitching Post. Mommy forgot half the pieces to his pack & play (I'll get all this down one day!) and so he had to sleep in the bottom of it like a big boy. He did this without skipping a beat!
We bought an emu egg at the emu/ostrich farm that Steve and I had visited before LJ was born and scrambled it up tonight for dinner. Delicious! And huge! After drilling the hole and "blowing" the egg out, we had enough for two dinners! Half was frozen for later enjoyment. It was fun! We'd also tasted ostrich for the first time. And, no, in case you are wondering, it does NOT taste like chicken. More like steak.
Spending time in wine country is always so soothing. It's quiet, calm, green, and simple. Everyone is so nice and the food is always delicious. It always makes us feel like a simpler life could be so much more enjoyable. To be honest, we're really hoping that the next phase of our life together takes us to an area where we can slow down a little. (Or a lot.) We're ready for life to be all about family, friends, and taking time to smell the roses. Ironic that we live at the beach but have no time to sit back and smell the salt water. We've "been here", "done this" and it's time for a change of scenery- though, I must admit the scenery here is pretty terrific! :-)
